With all the research I’ve been doing, I’ve hit roadblocks at nearly every turn. Comparing Novec 1230 and water was another tough challenge—Novec 1230 seemed promising but ultimately lacked the cooling power needed to stop thermal runaway, while water, though effective, needed to be applied in the right way to penetrate battery packs. The frustration of finding an option, only to realize it won’t work, has been a constant cycle. However, through persistence, I found that high-pressure water mist provides a way to solve both problems—its fine droplets allow it to cool efficiently and reach deeper into the battery structure. It’s been a long process, but seeing all these pieces come together makes the struggle worth it.

At this point, I’m so deep into this research that there’s no turning back. The exhaustion is real, but so is the excitement of nearing a final solution. Some of my peers have put together incredible presentations, pushing close to the 20-minute time limit, which just shows how much depth there is to each project. Seeing everyone’s hard work motivates me to keep refining my findings and making sure my final product is as strong as possible. With the deadline approaching, I just hope to pull everything together in time to present the best possible solution to this complex problem.
